・年齢は２０代から４０代後半までいろいろ
・韓国１、ベトナム１、ミャンマー１、インドネシア１、スリランカ１、
シンガポール１、インド２、マレーシア２、日本３
他に、インドネシアIBF３、中国の研修生１の 計１７名の審判団
・年齢は７５歳くらいか。
・非常に早口で、話題を追うことが我々には困難な場面もあった。
・Umpireの声、発音、抑揚等への詳細な指導があった。
・アジアのバドミントンの発展を願う立場から熱心に講義された。
・ＩＢＦ資格への移行を視野に人材の育成を行う。
幅があると思われることを中心に説明。
・いくつかの事例と想定される答を示し、受講者の意見を求められる。
・全体として、ケ−ススタディ−を通じて受講生との議論を重視されていた。
・講義の最後にライティング（従来の筆記テストと同じ形式のプラクティス？）があ
り、日々、英文に接する必要性を痛感させられた。
しい場面でより的確な判断ができるようにしなければならない。
・マッチ・コントロ−ルが大切である。そのためには、ＳＪ・ＬＪのみならず、選手
との信頼関係を保つことも重要である。（いつも言われていることであるが）
・声の大きさ、正しい言葉、正しい発音に注意すること。日々意識して練習をしなけ
ればならない。
・不品行な振る舞いによる警告やフォルトをとる場合は、状況をよく判断して行うこと。
・大会を通してAsian Spiritsが常に強調された。
注意が及んだ。
・選手への警告・フォルトについては、選手の立場を尊重する姿勢が強調され、フィ
スティングや声を発することについての場面判断が迫られた。小島は、２度警告を
発する場面があったが、試合後「どのような状況であったか。」を詳細に説明する
よう求められた。（当然ＩＢＦへの報告のため審判用紙の裏に簡単なレポ−トを書
かねばならなかった。）
・オリンピック後ということもあり地元インドネシアを除きランキング上位の選手が
参加していなかったので、少々寂しい大会であったが、中国・インドネシア・マレ
−シア・インド・タイからは次代を担うであろうと思われる選手が多数参加してお
り、層の厚さを見せつけられた。
・初日はＵＰ−ＤＯＷＮ−ＲＥＳＴの繰り返しで、次から次へと試合があり、精神的
疲労が強かった。
・体育館の老朽化が激しく、初めて雨漏りのため試合を中断するという経験をした。
・地元選手特にヒダヤットの人気は高く、最終日はＪＶＣのお揃いのポロシャツを着
ている動員された若者たち（３０００名ぐらいか）の声援をひときわ大きく浴びて
いた。また、イギリスへ行くため今回の試合で引退するレキシ−・マイナキ−の引
退セレモニ−が行われた。
・バドミントン王国にふさわしく試合の模様は連日ＴＶで放映されており、観客動員
も、準決勝・決勝の日は特に多かった。（決勝の日は、約８０００人）・競技の運
営はスム−ズで、ＬＪのレベルも高いように思われた。
・アドバタイジングに関するチェックを要求された。（インドネシア選手のウェアー
の前面に規定以上のロゴがあった。）
・ムスリムの女性選手が宗教上の理由でウォームアップ（ズボン）を着用させてくれ
という申し出があり、確認するためにRefereeを呼んだ。着用を許可された。また、
試合後主審と握手をしないこともある、とPakは話していた。
・日本選手団の監督とも親しく話をする機会があり、有意義な情報交換ができた。
グループ内で主審、サービスジャッジ、休憩を順に担当し、評価を受ける。
・グループ内を中心に受講生同士互いに助言する。
・５日間で、一人２０試合程度担当。
さんの報告書参照のこと）。講義や任務後の講評の中で強調されたことは、
（１）声の大きさ。
（２）マッチコントロ−ル
（３）発音。（特に日本人には厳しく数字の発音、サ−ビスオ−バ−やセカンドサ−バ−
の抑揚はよく注意され、試験官の目前で何度も直接指導を受けた。）
（４）正しい用語を用いること。用語集以外の言葉は通常必要ない。
（５）ＳＪの技量
・講習会時は自由。
・体育館においては、白の半袖カッターシャツにネクタイを着用。なお、準決勝及
び決勝時はジャケット着用。線審はスポンサーＴシャツを着用していたが、アン
パイアーは記念品として受け取り、着用することはなった。
・靴は革靴でコートに入る。
・ホテルに帰ってからは、ゴム草履やスニーカーが必需品。
２）ホテル
・人件費が安いためか、人手が十分に準備されている快適なホテルであった。
・バスタブのないシャワーのみのホテルは小島以外はじめての経験だった。
・谷上と齊藤は同室。小島はシンガポールの受講生と同室。
３）費用
・航空運賃は日本協会。
・宿泊費＋朝食はＡＢＣ。
・US＄１２０の食費（手当）もＡＢＣから。
・体育館では昼食や軽食が出された。
４）食事
・雨季で足元が悪いこともあり、ほとんどホテル内の日本料理店で済ませた。
・１,０００円も出せば十分に飲んで食べることができた。
・２度の公式パティーでは、酒類は出されなかった。
・地元の料理（昼食弁当を含む）は、少々スパイスが効いていることを除けば、口
に合うものであった。特に、シーフードは美味であった。
５）お土産
・受講生同士、ちょっとしたお土産（200〜300円）を交換した。
・全員に行き渡るだけの土産を抱えていったのは日本人だけだったかもしれない。
６）移動
・ワゴン車が会場との間でピストン運行されていた。（行程は５分程度）
・徒歩（約１５分）での往復も可能。
７）観光
・当初の案内では、受講生を対象に市内観光が予定されていたが、日程上実施され
なかった。
・大会後の半日、組織委員長のはからいで、市内観光をさせてもらった。
８）情報源
・ホテルロビーに、ＡＢＣデスクが常設されており、必要なことはそこで確認でき
た。非常に親切に対応してもらえた。
９）持ち物
腕時計、ストップウォッチ、筆記用具、ルールブック、コイン、ＩＤカード用写真、名刺、
ジャケット、ネクタイ、替えズボン、ハンカチ、くし、スリッパ、カメラ、辞書、胃腸薬、
土産、航空券、パスポート、クレジットカードなど
但し、必要な物は何でもホテル周辺で入手できた。
10）その他
・物価水準は、日本と比較すれば大変安く、体育館で販売していた大会記念のＴ
シャツやポロシャツは日本円換算で３００円から４００円という価格でおみや
げとして重宝した。また、市中のス−パ−マ−ケットや食堂・レストランでは
食料品などを大変安く買うことができた。ただ、高級デパ−ト（ホテル近くの
ショッピングセンタ−では＜そごう＞も営業していたが）などでは、それほど
安くはなく、インドネシアにおける富裕層とそれ以外の人々との差をいまさら
ながら実感した。
・試験日程が変更になったため、ＡＢＣからは、３０日にインドネシア到着も可
能との連絡が来たので、出発日を１０月３０日に変更することになったが、Ａ
ＢＣから現地の組織委員会に連絡が行っておらず、（日本協会へは変更を了承
する旨のメ−ルがＡＢＣから入っていた。）空港への迎えが無かった。そのため、
空港でトラブルに巻き込まれることになった。（空港出口で数人の若者に囲ま
れ白タクに乗せられそうになり、それを断ると非常に険悪な雰囲気になったり、
何とか市内へ行こうとタクシ−に乗ったが、日本人ということで足下を見られ
かなり高い料金を請求されることになった。）変更等があった場合には直接連絡
を取り確認することが大切なことを思い知らされた。（事前の学習が足らず、
インドネシアの国情を把握できていなかったことも一因ではあるが・・・）
・雨季ということで予想より気温は低く、ホテルと体育館のエアコンのせいもあ
り、とても赤道直下にいるとは思われなかった。
・インドネシアのIBFのumpireとdeputy refereeは広島アジア大会のumpireとして
参加しており，親しく話しができた。
・７月のアジアジュニアがプラスとなり、ＡＢＣ役員とも自由に話をすることが
でき色々な情報を得ることができた。
・今回３名の派遣が認められた背景には、ＡＢＣにおいて日本協会の果たすべき
役割への期待があると思う。派遣にあたって多くの支援をいただいた日本協会
に感謝をすると同時に、今後に向け責任の重さを感じている。
CASE STUDIES.
ricochet into the opponent' s court. The server claims for point
but the receiver protests. What is your decision?

racket injured a reporter.
eg. In the Q/F of Thai Open '99 between Chen Gang & Ewe Hock, Ewe Hock lost because
of the delay and break of rhythm.
S serves to R.
S is faulted by the S/J and you also faulted R for moving early.
You say it is a 'let', but R says he only moved because of S's fault service action,
which stopped during the service.

You are umpiring a match and the L/J to your left (who is covering the side-line)
signals in. The player nearer to him throws down the racket and uses his hand
to show the L/J where the player thinks the shuttle had landed, about 30 mm out.

You are umpiring a match. A player stumbles while trying to make a return, and
although he gets up, he clearly has injured his ankle. What action do you take?

A player appears on court wearing a shirt with a large advertisement on it. The
advertisement is clearly larger than the regulations allow. The player says it
